We are pleased to announce the 2020 Layla Suzanne Ryan Scholarship winner, Lina Florez!
Through the generosity of the Ryan family, the Layla Suzanne Ryan Scholarship was founded in 2007 to honor her memory by recognizing the efforts of a young astronomer who shares their passion, experience, and knowledge of Astronomy with peers, faculty and the public through community outreach.
Lina Florez earned a degree in astronomy this Spring. Lina began working in Professor Vieira's lab as a high school student and continuing to work for him as an undergrad student. She has worked on instrumentation for the South Pole Telescope and is now working on more computational analysis work. In terms of other astronomy experiences, she was fortunate enough to have done a few summer internships at Princeton and another one at UT-Austin. Her outreach work includes outreach coordinator for Cena y Ciencias here in Champaign, whose events are conducted in Spanish.
